Lyrics Smile Charles Chaplin

Smile

Info
Smile” is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, inspired by Puccini’s Tosca. John Turner and Geoffrey Parsonsadded the lyrics and title in 1954. In the lyrics, based on lines and themes from the film, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile. “Smile” has become a popular standard since its original use in Chaplin’s film. It was used as the theme song on NBC-TV’S The Jerry Lewis Show from 1967-69.
In the final scene of Modern Times Charlie and the gamine set off down the road to a new life.
When they get up off the grass verge to go, he pauses and points to the corners of his mouth, indicating that she should smile.
The film soundtrack is only instrumental, but the Turner and Parsons lyrics must have been inspired by this scene.

“Smile Sheet Music Lyrics Charles Chaplin”

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you’ll just
Smile

“Smile”
(originally by Nat King Cole)

Smile though your heart is aching,
Smile even though it’s breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You’ll get by,
If you smile through your pain and sorrow,
Smile though it may be tomorrow,
You’ll see the sun come shining through, for you,
Light up your face with glad ness
Hide every trace of sadness,
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That’s the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.
Ooh, oh, oooh, mmm, ooh yeah
That’s the time you must keep on trying,
Smile what the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile,
Smile though your heart is aching,
Smile even though its breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You’ll get by,
That’s the time you must keep on trying, (keep on tryin’)
Smile, what’s the use of crying? (whats the use of crying)
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile,
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile, smile.
